Zoltan-Dienes theory and its applications in teaching mathematics

“Give me a mathematical structure and I’ll turn it into a game.”

-Zoltan dienes

Dienes's learning stages are represented in six stages:

(1) Games.

(2) Search for common properties.

(3) Acting.

(4) Coding.

(5) Formation or drafting.

Dienes distinguishes between two types of thinking when confronting a mathematical problem:

(1) Analytical thinking:

In it, the individual performs a logical analysis of the problem and moves in a planned format from one step to the next.

(2) Constructive thinking:

He describes it as an adventurous thinking in which a person transcends the boundaries of a logical system.
